Two-Way Multichannel Video Links
Multichannel Video Links for Cable TV are also offered with two-way capability for systems requiring a return path for DOCSIS upstream signals and other diagnostic data carriers.
Existing one-way systems can be retrofitted with a return path by adding a receiver at the Headend site and a transmitter at the remote sites.
The return or upstream path is designed to return to the Headend the QPSK, 16-QAM or 64-QAM modulated signals from subscribers. One version of the upstream link uses spectrum in the existing band (typically 13 GHz) for the return path. Other versions use one frequency band for the downstream (typically 13 GHz) and a separate frequency for the upstream (typically 18 GHz, but other frequencies are available).
The dual-band configuration provides a considerable upstream capacity while simultaneously providing additional downstream capacity without sacrificing existing bandwidth. Both versions are available at various power levels in indoor and outdoor configurations.
